The Florida Department of Health in Lake County issues a rabies alert for South Lake County and reminds residents of the importance of animal vaccinations

Clermont - Donna Gregory, Administrator of the Florida Department of Health in Lake County has issued a rabies alert for the Clermont area of Lake County.  This is in response to a raccoon which tested positive for rabies on Friday, May 10th.

All residents and visitors in Lake County should be aware that rabies is present in the wild animal population and domestic animals are at risk if not vaccinated. The public is asked to maintain a heightened awareness that rabies is active in Lake County. Alerts are designed to increase awareness to the public, but they should not give a false sense of security to areas that have not been named as under an alert.

Lake County – The Lake County Health Department is reminding residents about healthy and safe swimming behaviors which should be practiced year-round.  Every year, thousands of Americans get sick with recreational water illnesses (RWIs), which are caused by germs found in places where we swim. The goal of RWII Prevention Week is to raise awareness about healthy and safe swimming. “National Recreational Water Illness Prevention Week is recognized May 20th – 26th and we encourage residents and visitors to practice safe swimming behaviors to prevent recreational water illnesses (RWIs) and injuries,” states Sheri Hutchinson, Lake County Health Department Injury Prevention Coordinator.
