UMATILLA HEALTH CLINIC
· The Lake County Health Department
clinic in Umatilla, located at 249 E. Collins St., underwent a
renovation and expansion project.
· The $3.6 million project was completed
in about one year.
· The project included renovating
the existing 4,600-square-foot structure and adding 11,000 square
feet. Added features include exam rooms, nursing workstations,
storage rooms and a laboratory.
· The clinic offers various services
to the surrounding community, including family health, maternity,
immunizations and specialty clinics.
· The facility is first Lake County
project and the first health clinic in the state to receive silver
certification from the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership
in Energy and Environmental Design rating system. The voluntary
program provides a framework for assessing building performance
and meeting sustainability goals. The requirements of the system
emphasize sustainable site development, water savings, energy
efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.
· A few of the green-building initiatives
implemented at the health clinic include: increased insulation;
solar panels; meters to monitor energy consumption; fluorescent
lights with motion sensors that deactivate when rooms are unoccupied;
low-flow fixtures coupled with sensors and automatic controls;
native Florida landscaping; a computerized heating and cooling
system with an advanced filtration unit; shielded parking lot
lights; and a reflective roof to decrease heat-island effects.
·The new facility was designed by
the Orlando office of Harvard Jolly architects.The construction
manager for the project is R.D. Michaels Inc. of Maitland.
·The previous clinic in Umatilla closed
in 2004 due to indoor air-quality issues.
